CNMI Disease Reporting Requirements
It's the Law
CNMI’s NNDs are mandatorily reportable under CNMI Public Law 19-78 subsuming CNMI Administrative code 1.3.1 § 140-10.3: ‘Communicable Disease Rules and Regulations’ that sets out the mandatory reporting of scheduled notifiable diseases (1.3.1 § 140-10.3-101 – ‘Duty to Report’) by “any person licensed or registered to practice any healing art who has knowledge of or suspects the presence of any communicable disease or any other disease dangerous to the public health”
Civil Penalties for Violations of CNMI Reporting Law
A person who violates any of the provisions of this subchapter or regulations issued pursuant thereto shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be fined not more than five hundred dollars or imprisoned for not more than one year, or both.
What and When to Report
Reportable diseases, infections, microorganisms, and conditions – and the time frames which they must be reported are listed below.

Any unusual number, of clustering or unexplained, illness or death or diseases of public health significance including from Chemical, Biological, Nuclear and Radiological exposures.

IMMEDIATE - (Within 4 Hours)
Suspected, probable or confirmed cases
Diseases in this category could represent immediate case, healthcare worker and community risks that results in severe morbidity or mortality and/or could be from an ongoing exposure source (i.e., food item). Diseases and agents in the immediate category cannot wait to be reported until the next working day. They must be reported within 4 hours by phone.
If the NND or agent does not fall within this category they fall within the 24 hours or 3 days reporting category.

Probable and/or confirmed cases
Diseases in this category can wait until the next working day to be reported. NNDs not within the immediate or urgent reporting category fall within the routine category and must be reported within 3 days.

Diseases in this category do not require immediate or urgent reporting by phone. Diseases in this category can be reported by encrypted email within 3 days.
